When your chances of winning at a game is not dependent on your skill but rather on your luck then everything can become dangerous and especially if gambling becomes an addiction. Playing games based on our luck has a long history in the culture and epic tales of the Indian Culture.In even the very famous “The Mahabharata” there was a scene where Duryodhana played a game of dice with Yudhishthira. The game of dice was rigged by the cunning Shakuni .The rigged game favored Duryodhana who constantly won everything Yudhishthira placed as a bet. Yudhishthira took his loss to his pride and he constantly kept all of his possessions and lost them. Eventually when he got stripped off all his possessions and his kingdom he kept his brothers at stake and lost them too. The greedy and lustful Duryodhana took his chance at Yudhisthira’s raging emotions and asked him to place his wife , Draupadi at stake. After already giving away his brothers as slaves Yudhishthira made the mistake of not respecting a women and he put his wife at stake. Even after the whole audience protesting, nothing could be done Yudhishthira had already fallen into addiction and nothing could stop him anymore. As was destined, Yudhishthira lost and Draupadi was forcefully brought to Duryodhana who tried to humiliate her by pulling her saree off as Draupadi rejected to serve Duryodhana. It was a miracle after this that Lord Krishna saved Draupadi from humiliation by constantly providing her with more saree but it cannot be overlooked that both Duryodhana and Yudhishthira objectified the other Pandava brothers and specially Draupadi. If not game of dice but gambling is still being continued in today’s society too..it is not illegal but it is dangerous .The one who gambles is not the one who is affected but the people around him/her or his/her family. We try to look at what we could win if luck favored us and that thought drives us into the deep hole of addiction where we do not realize that when we are losing when we are putting people’s life at stake it is no more a game but a trap.
This daytime fair is held for , participating in different kinds of activities. Local tribal people come here to get themselves entertained. It is fascinating because it provides everyday household items. But the most interesting and attractive part about this fair is that Gambling is Done and games are played . Only men between 8-80 years of age participate in these games . This is also a source of Recreation for the people in that area. Another part of gambling is cockfighting. People take their hens and put 2 hens against each other to fight and bet on their money . The person whose hen wins takes all the money and the person who loses gets nothing.
